80th Anniversary Charter Celebration

Washington Place, Honolulu

October 7, 2006

Emblem designed by Lion Shonosuke Koizumi

Chartered on October 11, 1926

With great fanfare and much aloha, President Sharon Yoshiura welcomed Lions and their guests from around the globe at the gala celebration held at Washington Place, which was the home of Queen Liliuokalani and, until recently, the residence of the Governor of Hawaii.

The festivities included an afternoon concert by the Royal Hawaiian Band and tours of the Washington Place Museum.  Music by Hawaii entertainers Jon Koki, Harold Tyler & Brother Richard Kupo, SSCC, along with Millie Kawaa and Ilima Dela Cruz provided the perfect complement to the evening's traditional luau menu.

Past District Governor Bernard A K S Ho and President Sharon Yoshiura, thank the 80th Anniversary Committee, including First Vice President Kin Ching, Second Vice President Lyn Moku, Secretary Donna Tamasese, Treasurer Ed Wong, Tailtwister Masue Nakamuea and Lion Brenda Takahashi for their hard work, determination, and good cheer.

As the evening's keynote speaker, Past International President Kay K Fukushima, noted, it was an evening that our Lions from Hawaii, and our sister clubs in Japan and on the Mainland will long remember.
