Hawaii Food Bank, River of Life & Humane Society Donations
Kudos to Jean Ota, the Damien Memorial High School student government and Damien Leos for the terrific work of collecting food items, toothpaste and towels, and dog toys for three worthy non-profit organizations on Oahu. They did the hard work of collecting and packing of donation items and
the Lions Club of Honolulu gladly delivered these items on their behalf.
Lion Jack Schweigert and President Mick Laconsay took time out of their work day to assist with this service event. When they arrived at Damien High School, they were greeted by Lion Jean Ota and students who loaded up the truck with boxes that contained 304 tubes of toothpaste, 55 hand towels, 349 cans of Spam, 197 cans of corned beef and four boxes of dog toys.
The food items were donated to the Hawaii Food Bank, toothpaste and towels to River of Life and dog toys to the Humane Society. While making the delivery to River of Life, Lions Mick and Jack were happy to see Hilda (see picture). Hilda came to one of our Lions general membership meetings earlier in the year to educate us on the terrific work River of Life is doing for the homeless in Honolulu.
